Practice 1/31/11
As the saying goes, "Better to be safe than sorry"
There will be NO PRACTICE TONIGHT. We WILL have practice/meet early on Friday or look at Wednesday morning to work on our new All-Squad routine that we will perform next week. Don't text me and ask, just wait for the email.
No email means no practice Wed morning and we will practice early on Friday instead around 4.
More details to come on that once we see what the weather does.
Thanks and BE SAFE and enjoy some rest time!

SUCCESS!
The Ames High Drill Team attended a regional competition this past weekend at Southeast Polk High School.
At Regionals they don't do places but rather an average of scores. Here is a list of awards they took home.
-Gold Squad: Super Sweepstakes (meaning they got 90-100 points in all 3 routines)
-Silver Squad: Super Sweepstakes (meaning they got 90-100 points in all 3 routines)
-Choreography Awards In: Kick, Hoop, Jazz and Pom-This means they had a score between 90-100 in choreography.
-High Point: Hoop and Kick. -This means they were the highest scores in the division
It was a fantatstic day, the kids were wonderful. Thanks so much to the parents who attended in support of our team.

1/14/11 Update
Hello Drill Team,
Please note the following updates:
1-Since I did not have practice on Monday so the girls could study for finals, reminder that I am requesting they come 30 min earlier than the previously stated times to prepare for tonight's games. So Gold will be there at 5pm tonight ready to practice and perform POM and Silver will report at 6pm to prepare to perform JAZZ. Please make sure you have all your items such as earrings, shoes, tights etc.
2-We are attending the Regional Competition held at SE Polk on January 29th, we will be gone all day for this event. More details to come. This is a great and laid back competition that will be great for our teams.
3-EXCITING NEWS! We were invited to perform our POM and KICK routines at the GIRLS STATE BASKETBALL Tournament!!!! Our date assigned is March 1st with KICK performing at the halftime of the 6:30 game and POM performing at the halftime of the 8pm game at Wells Fargo! Note we will leave after school to go eat before hand. Congrats to the team on this honor! :)
4-I am also going to cancel next Monday's practice. 50% since there is no school that day and 50% because I heard on KASI this morning that they are expecting more snow and perhaps ice that day. SOOO I'd prefer you to be safe and sound at home instead of driving at night for practice. Due to that I will again ask you to come early for next Friday's games. So the Silver team will report at 5pm to practice to perform KICK and the Gold team will report at 6pm to prepare to perform HIP HOP.
5-I hope finals went well for everyone, please shoot me a heads up if you know that your dancer did not pass a class. The athletic code states an athlete must pass ALL classes to be eligible to participate. If they fail a class they will sit out for 30 days. Note they still must attend all practices and performances.
6-Note a few changes have been made to the halftime schedule for routines, please see below.
1/14 F G/B M-Town Girls: Gold-Pom, Boys: Silver-Jazz
1/21 F G/B Waukee Girls: Silver Kick, Boys: Gold: Hip Hop
1/25 T G/B East Girls:MA Dance NDA, Boys: All Male
2/4 F G/B Mason C Girls: Gold-Hoop, Boys: Silver-Kick
2/5 S B/ SC North Boys game only: Kids Clinic
2/8 T G/B Lincoln Girls: All Squad, Boys: CO-ED
I hope this finds you all having a fantastic new year, 2011 will surely be AMAZING for the Ames High Drill Team!!!
Watch the BLOG (www.amesdrillteam.blogspot.com) for more info on Regionals and Team announcements and as always email me with any questions, my door is always open.
Have a GREAT day!
